TWO youths convicted over the brutal gang murder of Sudanese man Akol Akok are seeking to be released into the community on licence after serving less than two years in custody. The pair have applied to the Supreme Court for release - even though their non-parole periods have not yet expired - in a test case that could have widespread ramifications for the legal system. The final decision could mean that other youths serving long sentences for serious crimes would be able to apply for release on licence.
